The hypocritcal village elders, the town prostitute with a heart of gold, and finally the very christ-like Manolis, who is willing to sacrifice his life for the good of his people. This might best be thought of as a magical mystery, and it was in that light that I enjoyed it very much. I doubt that I would've liked to have had the sad experiences the author narrates of her childhood, nonetheless, I would've loved to have had the talent to write such a poignant book. Everyone has a treasured place to read, study, work, and dream―but there’s something special about an English room.
