My 9 yo and I have read them together. A very eye opening read, for me at least, and a new perspective on the mechanism of modern change. Ellen Wright brings good cooking and entertaining together in this wonderful addition to my kitchen. Potentially creepy, but magically romantic, nonetheless. Eschewing the usual emphasis on the high politics of the recent era, he offers a comprehensive narrative of the island's political history from the first Chinese settlements to the Chen Shui-bian presidency. A group of kids, ages 3 to 6, sat entranced while my co-teacher and I "sang" this book.
